¿Cómo lucha Blue Mary en Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?
English Version
Our team recently had the opportunity to test Blue Mary, the third character of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves' second season, ahead of her official release on March 26. Here are our first impressions of this iconic fighter, who joins Nightmare Geese, added last month.
How does Blue Mary fight in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?
SNK has re-imagined Blue Mary for City of the Wolves, setting her apart from her previous iterations in KOF and other Fatal Fury titles. In this installment, Blue Mary is clearly defined as a "Grappler" archetype. Her gameplay style focuses on closing the distance to the opponent, executing powerful grabs, and maintaining relentless pressure to control the flow of the fight.
Does she have invincible moves?
All of Blue Mary's "Gears" (Ignition, Redline, and Hidden) possess invincibility, providing her with moments of safety and offensive potential. However, her "Vertical Arrow" attacks do not share this property, although all three versions offer crucial invulnerability against airborne attacks.
To compensate for ground combat, Blue Mary utilizes her "Real Counter." This move, executed with a half-circle back and kick (214 B, D, or BD), grants her invincibility. The light and heavy versions (B, D) activate invincibility from the sixth frame, while the OD version is invincible from the fourth. A key point is that if an opponent enters the range of "Real Counter," Blue Mary can follow up with a grab by pressing the punch button forward.
Other character features
Blue Mary stands out for her wide array of moves that can chain into grabs. It's particularly noteworthy that all of her finishers and grabs result in a "hard knockdown" for the opponent, allowing Mary to dictate the continuation of her offense and force advantageous situations. Her mobility is another fundamental pillar of her style, thanks to the "Quick Step," executed with punch. This move has two versions: A (half-circle forward + punch) and B (half-circle backward + punch). Mastering the "Quick Step" is essential for her positioning and for linking advanced combos, including those using Rec Accel.
Is Blue Mary easy to play in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?
Among all the characters SNK has provided for early testing, Blue Mary appears to be the most technically demanding for players. This is due to the strict timing required for some of her links and the need to alternate between "U" motions and charge inputs. Unlike many other fighters in the game, Blue Mary is not perceived as an overt aggressor; her strategy leans more towards space control and keeping opponents grounded to limit their mobility.
