Samara Weaving rumored as Emma Frost for Marvel Studios' X-Men film
While Ryan Gosling is reportedly stepping into the role of Ghost Rider for an upcoming Marvel Studios film, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing to welcome another significant character in "Spider-Man: A New Day" before the December release of "Avengers: Doomsday," the first X-Men film as part of the MCU might have one of its lead actresses confirmed, according to Deadline. The role in question is that of the telepath capable of transforming her skin into diamond, Emma Frost, who is rumored to be portrayed by Australian actress and model Samara Weaving.
Weaving has previously appeared in films such as "Ready or Not" and "The Babysitter" franchise. Marvel Studios' first X-Men film will be directed by Jake Schreier, who also helmed "Thunderbolts." While numerous unconfirmed rumors and misinformation circulate on social media regarding casting choices—such as Cailee Spaeny as Rogue—the selection of Samara Weaving as Emma Frost is currently considered one of the more reliable reports.
Frost is a mutant who first appeared in the X-Men comics in the 1980s and has evolved over the years from a supervillain to a key member of the X-Men. In cinematic adaptations, her most recent portrayal was by January Jones in "X-Men: First Class" (2011).
Some of the original mutants from 20th Century Fox's films are expected to appear in "Avengers: Doomsday," with confirmed participations from Ian McKellen (Magneto), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler).
