De Zerbi is the third manager this season for Spurs, highlighting the considerable task of turning the club's fortunes around. He has signed a long-term contract, indicating the club's belief in his potential.

Tottenham Suffers Defeat in De Zerbi's Opening Match

De Zerbi's first match as Tottenham manager could not have been a worse start. The team lost 1-0 away to Sunderland, with Nordi Mukiele scoring the decisive goal with an impressive strike.

This defeat extends Tottenham's winless streak in the Premier League to 14 games, a run that dates back to their victory over Crystal Palace on December 28. This is the club's longest stretch without a win since 1935.

De Zerbi commented on the team's situation, stating to BBC Sport, "I can be a big brother, father, they don’t need a coach. They don’t need to improve football. They can play better and they will play better once we reach a different level of confidence. I’m sure if we are able to win a game then everything will change."
