Victor Wembanyama Declares Himself Frontrunner for MVP Trophy
Following a recent victory that extended the Spurs' winning streak to six games, bringing their season record to an impressive 54 wins and 18 losses, Victor Wembanyama addressed the MVP race during the post-game press conference.
« I've given it some thought, » he declared. « I believe there's a debate happening right now. And there should be one, though I think I ought to be leading it. My goal is to ensure that by the end of the season, there's no debate left. »
In what is described as his third season, Wemby is putting up outstanding averages of 24.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. He also leads the league significantly in blocks with 3.0 per game, far ahead of his closest competitor, fellow Frenchman Alex Sarr of the Washington Wizards, who records 2.0 blocks.

Two previous Spurs centers have been named MVP: David Robinson in 1995, and Tim Duncan in 2002 and 2003. Victor Wembanyama now believes he should become the third Spurs player to earn this prestigious honor.
« For now, it's still reasonable for there to be a debate, » he concluded. « But as I've stated, my objective is to make sure there's no debate whatsoever by the season's end. »
