Varun Chakravarthy's 'Tea Cup' Photo: Another Subtle Dig at Pakistan After T20 World Cup Triumph

Varun Chakravarthy has once again captured the attention of cricket fans with an Instagram post that has sparked widespread speculation and discussion regarding its hidden meanings.

India achieved a brilliant victory at the T20 World Cup, becoming the first team to win the trophy for the third time, successfully defending their title, and also the first host nation to clinch the tournament. In the final, they decisively defeated New Zealand by 96 runs, setting an impressive total of 255/5 thanks to outstanding performances from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma, before dismissing the New Zealanders for just 159 runs.

Among a series of photos in his Instagram carousel, the Indian spinner is seen posing beside the T20 World Cup trophy, sipping from a coffee cup. Many supporters interpret this as another subtle jab at the Pakistan cricket team, referencing a past incident during the 2025 Asia Cup.

Chakravarthy had previously shared a similar picture after India's victory over Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final. Due to strained relations between the two nations, Indian players had declined to accept the trophy from the Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, leading the team to return home without the award.

The day after that incident, Chakravarthy posted a photo of himself in bed with a coffee cup placed nearby. He later explained in an interview that the cup symbolized the trophy, which he had originally intended to use for the photo.

"I was confident we would win. After the second match, I was sure that if we met them in the final, we would emerge victorious. I had everything planned – I intended to sleep with the trophy next to me and take a picture. But after the match, there was nothing next to me but a coffee cup, so I went ahead with that," he recounted.

Although the mystery spinner finished as one of the top wicket-takers in the 2026 T20 World Cup with 14 scalps, his economy rate stood at 9.25 (287 runs conceded in 31 overs), highlighting a somewhat inconsistent performance throughout the tournament.
